Weekend Project #1: Cardboard Clear-Out

Published by Megan on Sun, 07/31/2011 - 17:51 in

Our unfinished basement has served as the dumping ground for all of our storage needs since we've moved in. That means that it's collected 2.5 years worth of stuff with little organization. It was getting to be quite a mess, as I'm sure you can imagine.

Big Plans

Published by Megan on Fri, 07/29/2011 - 17:41 in

Decorating at our house pretty much halted for the past few weeks. That's why my posting has been scarce, to say the least. As a whole, we have felt overworked, over-scheduled, and completely exhausted. Peanut has not been sleeping well and has been dealing with a slightly irritated ear (not yet an ear infection), so she hasn't wanted to lay down at night. That means that as mom and dad, we don't get to lay down at night - until WAY past our normal bedtime.

In Love...

I know my posting was a little sparse last week, but I think this post more than makes up for it. Especially since I've now written two versions of this post since my computer managed to eat the first one. I have the worst luck when it comes to writing longer posts on here....I think it must take me too long to finish them and my computer doesn't like how slow I am.

Fun Spaces

I came across this image the other day and thought the space was a wonderful fit for a pre-teen/teenage girl. I love the use of a solid, bold color on the walls and the (what looks like, anyway) inexpensive scrapbook paper in frames as art. The fun print on the window coverings caught my eye, too. I'm a huge fan of solid colors with a little bit of print thrown in to mix things up so the orange walls with the pink chairs, green rug, and white sofa are right up my alley paired with the fun prints used for art and window treatments. I would have loved this room in my early teenage years.

Designer: Tina Muller

Tina Muller is an award winning kitchen designer for Drury Designs and is based out of Chicago. I caught a glimpse of some of her designs and was pretty impressed, so I thought I'd share the images here.

Exhaustion

Published by Megan on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 22:21

Please forgive me for the lack of posting yesterday, and for the non-design related posting today. I am completely exhausted. Work has really picked up over the last week and I'm struggling to get everything done during the day. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel though, I think I'll make it through :). Now I just want to look at my eyelids for the next 8+ hours. Goodnight!

Dreaming of...Outdoor Spaces

Published by Megan on Mon, 07/11/2011 - 13:57 in

With plans to update the outdoor areas of our home, I'm feeling inspired by these images found via HGTV this week. Truth be told, we did end up postponing the work on our front flower beds this weekend because we decided to have a large amount of soil dropped off at our home rather than purchase individual bags. I'll be sure to update you when we finally break ground, so stay tuned!

Color Schemes & Favorite Designers

Published by Megan on Sat, 07/09/2011 - 23:15 in

The one thing I struggle with in our current home is the entirely open floor plan. Ironically, it's also one of the main reasons I was initially attracted to our home. I love the wide, open spaces and the fact that when you're in the kitchen you can still manage to have a conversation with someone in the dining room, living room, or entryway (as long as the kitchen faucet isn't running, that is). The reason I have such a hard time with the open floor plan now is that it is incredibly hard to tie color schemes in from room to room on a large scale.

Beach House

Ever since I laid eyes on the home featured in the movie Something's Gotta Give, I've been in love with beach-inspired homes. I absolutely love that movie, and the home that can be seen throughout it. Here are some photos, from Hooked On Houses to refresh your memory or show you if you haven't seen the movie yet. (PS If you haven't, you should definitely watch it, it's one of my go-to movies)

What Home Style Are You?

Published by Megan on Fri, 07/08/2011 - 10:53 in

I think I've mentioned this before, but I have a sickness when it comes to looking at homes for sale online. As in, I do it almost daily. I check the listings, look at the photos, narrow down what I want in our forever home, etc. Did I mention that we aren't even looking to buy another house yet? We still have a few years before we look to buy again more than likely. I have no idea why I'm obsessed with looking at homes that are on the market now.
